Alappuzha, also known as Alleppey became very famous as "Venice of the East". The criss-cross roads and rivers makes this district a really unique experience for the tourists. Alappuzha also hosts number of boat races. The major paddy cultivation in Kerala is in a place called Kuttanadu, a part of Alappuzha.

The main spots of tourist attraction are Pathiramanal (meaning the sands of midnight), the huge statue of Lord Budha known as "Karumadikuttan", Kumarakodi where the legendary poet Kumaranasan is laid to rest, Saradhamandiram, Krishnapuram Palace and the fascinating Alappuzha Beach.
